Rater Training Fee Structure, Discounts, and Refund Policy

Details of Cost and Payment

5-DAY RATER TRAINING CLASS and EXAM: The cost for rater training, the examination, and supervision of the first energy rating is $1,250. A payment of 50% ($625) is required with the application to hold a space for the class, and the balance is due on the first day of the class. NEHERS does not accept credit cards - only personal checks, bank checks, and money orders are accepted.

Follow up costs: After a rater passes the National Rater Exam, there may be an additional cost for the supervision of 4 additional ratings by an accredited HERS Provider, hopefully from the rater’s locality. The cost would be worked out between the rater candidate and the organization.

Early Registration Incentive

A free copy of Residential Energy by John Krigger will be mailed prior to class to applicants who postmark their application and deposit 28 days in advance of a rater training class.

NEHERS Rater Training Refund Policy

The Alliance is pleased to be able to offer high quality HERS rater training in the Northeast, approximately 2-3 times per year. It would be unfortunate to have to cancel a class at the last minute because one or more students drop out. Therefore, in order to cover the costs of our trainers and coordination and to continue to hold classes when there are cancellations, the following refund policy is in place:

If notice of cancellation is received:

  • Thirty or more days prior to class: 100% of the deposit will be refunded (no less than 50% of full cost)
  • Between 15 and 29 days prior to class: $300 of the deposit will be charged, but may be applied to a future class if requested
  • 14 days or less prior to class: no refund is available.

Exceptions to the above stated policy will be considered on a case by case basis with the approval of the NEHERS Board of Directors.

If you have to cancel a class, contact the training coordinator immediately at 413-585-0402 or using the contact form.
