EPA ENERGY STAR® Version 3.0 Online Training Opportunity

The Northeast HERS Alliance ("Alliance") is proud to announce, in association with Building Efficiency Resources ("The BER"), ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 Online Training for certified HERS Raters.

ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 online training for HERS Raters and ENERGY STAR builders been offered by The BER since March 2011.

All certified HERS Raters who plan to provide verification services for ENERGY STAR Version 3 homes must receive ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 training by an Accredited ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 Training Provider.

The Alliance and The BER understand that taking time off of work to attend additional trainings is not an option for most certified Raters. That is why the Alliance and The BER are offering certified Raters the ability to attend the ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 Rater Online Training.

The BER's online ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 training provides 18 hours of RESNET Professional Development Credits, as well as 9 BPI Continuing Education Units, and will also feature training on the EPA's "Indoor airPLUS" program. The ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 training will be presented in six two hour modules that will be given live in the morning and evening so that certified Raters do not have to worry about missing any time away from their desk or field during the normal business day. Certified Raters may attend training from the comfort of their own home or office, thus eliminating the travel and hotel costs associated with traditional classroom trainings. The ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 trainings can be taken in any order and at the certified Rater's own pace.

The six modules will cover the following topics:

  1. ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 online training Module 1: Overview, Version 2.5, and energy modeling for Version 3.0 and 2.5;
  2. ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 online training Module 2: Thermal Enclosure Checklist (part 1);
  3. ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 online training Module 3: Thermal Enclosure Checklist (part 2);
  4. ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 online training Module 4: HVAC Quality Checklists (part 1);
  5. ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 online training Module 5: HVAC Quality Checklists (part 2); and,
  6. ENERGY STAR Version 3.0 online training Module 6: Water Management Checklist and EPA Indoor airPLUS;

Each online training session will include periodic quizzes to check for program comprehension, and will include an additional 30-60 minutes of Q&A at the end of each training session. An exam will be given following the completion of all 6 training sessions to confirm a certified Rater's preparedness to begin verification for ENERGY STAR Version 3.0.

The cost for all six modules and the exam is: $400.00. Individual modules are also available for $75.00. Existing BER Rater members will receive a $50.00 discount.* There is no charge to come back and take the individual sessions again after you have registered below.

The online training is presented weekly throughout the remainder of 2011 and into 2012. All modules may be taken weekly and are offered in the morning and evenings on an alternating biweekly schedule. Once you have registered, you will receive an email from The BER with a link to their training calendar and all instructions on how to register for the individual training modules that fit your schedule. They may be taken in any order and over the course of multiple weeks. Here are the dates for module 1:
